This is the equally famous Ennis house of Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1924. Never until then had concrete block been used with such beauty. It was cast in a special mold with a brocade-like pattern of the architect’s own design to give it a rich effect ordinarily not associated with so common a material. Wright saw in it a plastic and malleable material that needed the impress of human imagination.
